Founder of Okahai Botanicals, Ramon, has lived a life shaped by resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to mental health and wellness. From his childhood in the Philippines to becoming a father of five and a wellness advocate, Ramon’s journey is a testament to turning challenges into opportunities for growth and healing.

A Childhood in the Philippines

Ramon was born and raised in the Philippines, where he spent the first decade of his life surrounded by the natural beauty and cultural traditions of his homeland. His family relied on natural remedies and homegrown produce to maintain their health, instilling in him an early appreciation for the healing power of plants. However, his childhood was also marked by struggles with anxiety and depression. In a culture where mental health issues were rarely discussed, Ramon often felt isolated and misunderstood. These early challenges set the stage for his future mission to advocate for mental health and personal growth.

The Challenges of Constant Movement

At the age of ten, Ramon’s life took a dramatic turn when his family moved abroad in search of better opportunities. Over the years, they relocated to four different states across the United States before eventually settling in Canada. These frequent moves created constant upheaval, requiring Ramon to adapt to new environments, schools, and social circles.

Struggles with Language and Identity

As a Pacific Islander, Ramon faced challenges learning new languages and adjusting to different cultural norms. Language barriers often left him feeling disconnected, and the need to repeatedly assimilate into new communities amplified his sense of being an outsider.

The Pain of Starting Over

With each move, Ramon had to leave behind not only friends and familiar routines but also the toys, family members, and surroundings that had once defined his sense of home. He missed the comfort of his childhood paradise in the Philippines—the warmth of his extended family, the familiarity of his community, and the carefree joys of his childhood possessions. Each move felt like a loss, deepening his feelings of isolation and detachment.

A Lifelong Sense of Not Belonging

These experiences of constant change and cultural displacement left Ramon with a persistent feeling of not belonging. However, as he matured, he began to see the beauty of embracing his unique identity. His journey toward self-acceptance became a transformative realization that shaped his approach to life and inspired his work with Okahai Botanicals.

The Birth of Okahai Botanicals

From this period of introspection, Okahai Botanicals was born. Ramon envisioned a brand that blended the traditional remedies of his Islander heritage with modern adaptogens and natural ingredients. He sought to create products that addressed mental and physical health challenges holistically, providing the kind of support he had longed for in his own life. The name “Okahai” reflects Ramon’s vision of harmony and balance—a life where mental, physical, and emotional well-being are interconnected. Each product is thoughtfully designed to empower others to find their own path to wellness.

A Legacy of Advocacy and Healing

Ramon’s mission with Okahai Botanicals extends far beyond creating wellness products. As a father, he openly shares his struggles and successes with his children, teaching them the importance of mental health, self-acceptance, and resilience. He strives to break the cycle of silence around mental health that he experienced as a child, both within his family and in the broader community.Today, Ramon’s journey serves as the foundation of Okahai Botanicals. His story of navigating the challenges of constant movement, cultural adjustment, and personal struggles has shaped a brand rooted in compassion, healing, and transformation. Through Okahai Botanicals, Ramon de Jesus offers more than wellness products; he provides a pathway for others to embrace their journeys, find balance, and thrive. His life is a powerful reminder that even the most difficult challenges can lead to profound growth and the creation of something meaningful.
